Solving the Mystery of Chronic Illness with Dr Tom O’Bryan

You can also find this video on: Gettr | Rumble | Facebook | Twitter

Join us for an information packed interview with well-known health educator Dr Tom O’Bryan – ‘the Sherlock Holmes of chronic disease’ – and Christof Plothe, DO. They cover everything about chronic illness and how to tackle inflammation.

Dr Tom teaches that the journey to better health starts with recognising and addressing the underlying mechanisms that activate the body’s immune response. He has found that tackling inflammation is key to treating every chronic disease condition. He has also shown that sensitivity to wheat can contribute to the development of autoimmune diseases.

To reduce your risk of disease, or to encourage healing, it is essential to calm the inflammation, and the consequent activation of your immune system, by reducing your exposures to environmental triggers. As Dr Tom says:

The choice you make is either going to water your garden for healthy growth or fuel the fire of inflammation.

It is quite possible to arrest and reverse the direction of chronic disease. The important thing is to make a start. It doesn’t matter if it takes a couple of years, as long as you’re on the path and moving in the right direction. Baby steps are just fine!

Hello and welcome to Better Way Today. Today is Monday, the 15th of April, and Christophe and I are so glad that you’re here with us. If you are joining us live, please take a moment to say hello in the chat wherever you’re watching this. Obviously, if you’re watching this on Facebook, you’re not watching this, so you can’t tell us where you’re tuning in from. My name is Emma, and I’m here with my friend and colleague, Christoph. And Christoph and I would like you to know that we are both here with you live right now. We are not AI representations of ourselves, and you will never see artificial versions of us. In the same vein, this is a live show, and therefore errors, omissions, and technical glitches like the one we’re currently experiencing on Facebook are possible and sometimes expected. Without further ado, I’m going to hand it off to Christoph for Better Way News. Go ahead, Christoph. And as he just said, our errors should prove a point that we’re not perfect, that’s no AI. So yeah, thanks for pointing that out, Emma. Well, hello and welcome to another episode of Better Way News tonight. A lot has happened last week. Sorry, it was a little bit difficult to choose from, but one of the top highlights of last week, if you haven’t watched it, please take your time. to watch this on PragerU with Marisa Streit. There was an interview with Dr. Scott Atlas on why we were forced to jab and mask. You have to know that he was a former advisor of President Trump, a member of the White House COVID-19 task force, together with Dr. Fauci. And the comments he makes, and also the book that we certainly recommend you to read, are absolutely astonishing. And he reveals that many Americans may have died because of censorship, dishonesty, and the demonization of medical dissent, because he had a completely different perspective to everything that was carried out and had the scientific knowledge and the scientific data to show it. So please take your time to watch this epic interview. Next one, please. And, well, there was another bombshell study that came out last week, and we often hear about cardiovascular events following the COVID injections, and we’ve had hundreds of studies showing a correlation, especially with the mRNA technology, end damage to the heart and the cardiovascular system. But this latest study from Saudi Arabia with over 804 participants who had received at least one dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine showed that a staggering one quarter, 27.11% to be precise, experienced heart complications following the mRNA COVID-19 vaccinations. And this is within a month to up to a year. Many of them required hospitalization or ICU. 15.8% in fact landed on an ICU and nearly 40% just took one shot. So this should be another argument to question safety of this genetic experiment. Next one, please. And, well, some uplifting news from Japan. We’ve done a lot to alert all people of the plans of the WHO and of the upcoming decision in May concerning international health regulations and pandemic treaty of the World Health Organization. So we were very, very happy to hear of massive rallies with tens of thousands of people in widespread locations in Japan, people being mobilized in the streets. And it was not just to oppose potential mandatory vaccinations, which could be a part of the plans of the WHO for future health concerns, but the perceived overreach of health authorities and their ties with global pharma echoing a distressing sentiment of disenfranchisement among the populace. And so we’re looking forward to more voices being raised. Last week was also an event in Costa Rica. We hope to keep you updated on all the events worldwide to alert people to a topic that so far is hardly taking any coverage in the mainstream news, but will affect all all of us by taking away our sovereign rights, the sovereign rights of every nation involved to decide on health issues in the future. And talking about health, the next one, please. In a staggering Lancet publication last week, it was noted that we have now reached 1 billion people worldwide that are suffering from obesity. That’s a number that quadrupled since 1990 and was expected to reach the number in 2030. So we reached this landmark by a staggering a few years ahead. And the study released ahead of World Obesity Day in March the 4th, estimated about 226 million obese adults, adolescents, and children in the world were by 1990. And this has risen now to 1.038%. billion in 2022. So that’s an amazing amount of money and amount of people. And if you know what kind of diseases are related to this, this is a true health crisis. So please make sure that this topic climbs on the ladder of World Health Organization and other medical agencies And it’s important. And just a side note there, because I personally am also giving weight loss courses online to the fact that the main weight loss… achievement can be achieved of course by changing your diet of course getting rid of sugar but is actually when you eat so there has been a lot about talking when to eat in terms of fasting but most people now skip breakfast if they want to do some sort of intermittent fasting but please take your time to consider that if you if your scales give you a few more kilos too many then skip the evening meal because the amount of weight you gain by eating the same meal differs hugely between morning and night. So just as a side note and just as a piece of advice. Next one, please. And that’s more studies on 5G. And yeah, Mercola, Joseph Mercola has just published another impressive survey of 10 new studies on 5Gs and the consequences on our health. And they reach from cognitive impairment, from behavioral changes, dysfunctional mood regulation, neurodegenerative disorders, anxiety, depression, alterations in the microbiome etc etc so if you still think that 5g is some sort of conspiracy the world council for health has published intensively with about all the risks of emf pollution in the past and offers in its shop all kinds of devices to protect yourself from it please get out there and inform yourself and the next one please And this is also something that hopefully can inspire your evening. Christian Northup, a doctor from the US, had just recently written a beautiful little piece about five ways prayers can help you to heal. And it involves the fact that there are over 1,600 studies that show the correlation between religious and spiritual participation and health. And I like the sentence that prayer is like vitamin D for your soul. So it elicits the relaxation response, produces endorphins and et cetera, and helps you to cope better. So why not considering a nice meditation, a nice prayer when going to bed tonight? it certainly will have positive effects on your health and next one please and as usual a short inspiration at the end of it because there always is a better way and tonight from william shakespeare and it says love all trust a few do wrong to none so thank you very much for your attention and back to emma Thank you so much, Christoph. Now we’re going to go over this week’s announcements. And let me just pull those up. I’m happy to report that we are now successfully live streaming on Facebook. So welcome to our Facebook. All right. This Wednesday, David Charalambas is joining us for a free Mind Health webinar. This webinar is called Hidden Influence, The Invisible Forces That Convinced So Many. We also have a book in our shop from today’s guest, and I will tell you more about that book at the conclusion of the interview. Speaking of today’s guest, we have Dr. Tom O’Brien. Christoph and Dr. Tom recently sat down and covered everything about chronic illness and how to tackle inflammation. Dr. Tom shares the true reasons for our modern chronic diseases and his new docu-series about the topic. Dr. Tom gives an introduction to what measures we as individuals can take to prevent these and sends out a message of hope and empowerment. Dr. Tom is considered a Sherlock Holmes for chronic disease and teaches that recognizing and addressing the underlying mechanisms that activate an immune response is the map to the highway towards better health. He holds teaching faculty positions with the Institute of Functional Medicine and the National University of Health Sciences. Dr. Tom has trained and certified tens of thousands of practitioners around the world in advanced understanding of the impact wheat sensitivity and the development of individual autoimmune diseases. Learn more about Dr. Tom on his website at thedoctor.com. That’s T-H-E-D-R.com. You can also follow him on Twitter at thedoctor.com. And before we get into the interview, we’re going to watch a short trailer from Dr. Tom’s brand new docuseries called The Inflammation Equation. I couldn’t eat or drink anything, and I started vomiting, and I couldn’t stop. It got to the point where I lost a lot of my muscle mass. How many doctors have you seen ballpark? Maybe 60. And I would just hope that I would die. I started suffering from really severe seasonal allergies that would manifest in the ear infections that would take me out for days, chronic fatigue, sensitivities to chemical smells. I just felt defeated. Some of you may have heard that the expected lifespan for children born today is two years less than it was a couple of years ago. We were expected to have longer lifespan for decades. Now we’ve getting healthier and healthier and healthier, but now it’s reversing. And it’s reversing where our newborn children are not expected to live as long as you will. And diseases are going up. The percentage of people getting autoimmune diseases or cancers or heart disease is going up. Why is that? It’s lifestyle. It’s how we’ve lived our lives that got us to where we are now. And that’s what we’re talking about. We’re talking about a low-level smoldering inflammation that over time, months, years, potentially decades, is taking people’s lifespans down, taking away their energy, destroying their mood, increasing weight gain, and basically making life a whole lot less enjoyable. So it’s clear to me, based on the trajectory of my illness of 27 years with trigeminal neuralgia, getting worse, seven years of MS, getting worse, now with brain fog, I’m going to be bedridden, demented, and probably die with intractable pain. A terrible future. A month later, I can sit up at the table for supper, and my mental clarity is improving. My fatigue is markedly less. And my physical therapist says, Terry, you’re stronger. He advances my exercise. I can now do 15 minutes twice a day, and then 20 minutes twice a day, then 30 minutes twice a day. And then I start walking with walking sticks. With two, and then with one, and then none. And you should keep in mind, anyone with a progressive neurologic disorder, we let go of the future. We learn to just live each day as it unfolds because The future is so terrible. Who knows how much recovery might be possible? The first thing that’s usually going to help most people is to eliminate the triggers of inflammation. And the most common source of inflammation is what’s on the end of your fork. Having the understanding that I need to do things differently is one thing, but also having the capacity to make better decisions for myself and better decisions for my family then allows me to say, you know what guys, let’s not go to the bar, let’s go to the gym, right? Let’s take the dogs to the park instead of watch this TV show. And every single one of those branches will start to water the right garden or flame the fire. We’re optimizing digestion. We’re doing all of these foundational things, really kind of walking us back to how we evolve. And in doing this sort of systems approach, this concert of interventions, we’re able to turn the volume down on this chronic inflammation that will eventually show up as these 15 diseases that will kill us. What’s happened to the concept of inflammation, it’s like a volume control. If you have too little volume, you can’t hear it. That would be in a suppressed immune system. That’s like no inflammation. Or if you turn it too much the other way, now you have hyperinflammation, which is that that’s gonna lead and associate with many late stage diseases. How empowering to hear The authorities told you you were not sick, you didn’t have a problem, it’s all in your head, you’re making it up, but you persevered. And even my parents, as much as they wanted to believe, I really had only one of them that finally said, you know, I know you’re right. I know that what you’re experiencing is real, and I never gave up on you. So in experiencing that, don’t settle for that. The inflammation equation gets to the root of where inflammation comes from. The lessons you learn from the incredible people who have spent their entire life trying to help you is invaluable. We are interviewing the world experts on brain function, on immune function, on gut function. And we’re taking these people at the top of the field and their geeky way of talking and interpreting it into everyday language so that you understand the basics. Oh, I can see what that means. That makes sense to me. And then you understand what to do about it to turn it around. The science is very clear. You can arrest and reverse the development of your disease. But it’s lifestyle that has to be addressed in order to do that. Come join us. We’ll show you how. That’s a great trailer from Dr. Tom, and we’re going to hear from him and Christoph in just a moment. I’ve put the link to that docuseries in the chat where many of you are watching, and it is in the description in some of the places where you’re watching as well. I’ve just put it up on the screen too. It’s theinflammationequation.com. You can head there and find out how you can watch that docuseries. And now without further ado, here is our interview for today with Christoph and Dr. Tom. Hello and welcome everybody to another exciting interview tonight. It’s a true honor and pleasure to have with us Dr. Tom, as you are called. So welcome Dr. Tom to our show and thank you very much for your time. Thank you, Dr. Prasad. Pleasure to be with you. True pleasure. So our topic will go straight into the main topics of our time, if though to speak. In 2010, I think, Newsweek published a very, very interesting article for the first time presenting the important role when it comes to etiology. the reason for having any chronic disease and terming inflammation as the main culprit for all of these etiologies. Somehow then it got lost since then. So we’re very, very happy for you to tell us more about this so underestimated metabolic process in our body. One thing that we know nowadays is it’s still not very common in our current system to look at reasons, at etiology of something. How did you come up with determining that inflammation was so important for the main chronic diseases? That began in 1979 when I was an intern and my wife at the time and I could not get pregnant. And I called the seven most famous holistic doctors I’d ever heard of and asked them, what do you do for infertility? And they all told me what they do. And I was writing furiously and I put a program together and we were pregnant in six weeks. My neighbors in married housing who had gone through artificial insemination and nothing had worked for them, they asked if I could work with them. And I said, well, I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I don’t think there’s anything that’ll harm you. They were pregnant in three months. And so now we’re four months pregnant, very happy, telling… All of our friends and our, and this was in Chicago. I was in school in Chicago and our friend’s sister in Wisconsin had had two miscarriages. And she called and said, can I come down and talk to you, please, please. And I said, well, okay. And, you know, I started talking to people and she got pregnant and she had a healthy pregnancy and delivery. So I came out into practice. ready to help couples who wanted to get pregnant. And this was as a general practitioner. And, you know, there’s not much in medicine that’s all or every, but this was every, every couple who had hormone-related imbalances, whether it was infertility, premature ejaculation, polycystic ovaries, endometriosis, low sperm count, low testosterone, every single couple, as a component of what was triggering their problem, they were eating foods they did not know were a problem for them because they did not get gut pain when they ate the foods. And now we know the ratio is eight to one. with wheat and gluten as an example, for every one person that gets gut symptoms when they have a problem with wheat, there are eight people that don’t. They get thyroid symptoms or brain symptoms or joint symptoms or skin symptoms. They don’t get gut symptoms. So their first response when we talk about this topic, maybe wheat’s a problem, their first response is, well, I feel fine when I eat wheat. So then I printed out these articles and I put them in clear plastic in the treatment rooms. And I would say, I understand, but look at this study. It says only one out of eight get gut symptoms. These people get asthma or these people get depression or these people get arthritis. They don’t have gut symptoms. So you cannot use gut symptoms as the determining factor if a food is a problem for you or not. You have to check the immune system. You have to see, is your immune system fighting that food? Because your immune system is the armed forces in your body. It’s there to protect you. There’s an army, a navy, an air force, marines, IgA, IgG, IgE, IgM, cytokines. They’re all branches of the armed forces trying to protect you. So you have to see, is my body trying to protect me from lectins right now? If so, don’t eat lectins because you’re taxing your immune system. So that’s how this all began was understanding that foods had a role to play in whatever situation a patient came in with. The vast, I can’t think of a handful of people in 45 years of practice who didn’t have some foods that were triggering an immune response. It’s so very, very common, very common. I mean, if you think about the abundance of only this food content that you’re talking about, but there are certainly others that increase inflammation as well. People seem to be bombarded, even food-wise, with reasons for inflammation. And as you’ve already talked in previous talks of yours also about autoimmunity as another aspect of what these foods can cause, if we look at the rise in autoimmunity, if we look at the rise of inflammatory-related diseases, what would be your position when it came to a distribution of food for a healthier planet? Well, that’s a great question. Every autoimmune disease is going up four to nine percent a year, every year. every one of them. It just depends on what country you’re looking at as to what the percent is in that country. So it’s just a continuation of the problem. And we know, thanks to our friend, Professor Alessio Fasano at Harvard, Professor Fasano, Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Professor of Nutrition, Harvard School of Public Health, the chief Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Mass General at Harvard, the Director of the Celiac Research Center at Harvard, the Director of Mucosal Immunology at Harvard. Five titles this guy has. We think he’s going to win the Nobel Prize. We truly do. Because it was him and his team back in 1997 that published the first paper on the mechanism that causes intestinal permeability. It’s the production of the protein zonulin. And they identified that mechanism and they’ve been publishing for 25 years now on leaky gut, excessive intestinal permeability and rheumatoid arthritis, excessive intestinal permeability and multiple sclerosis, excessive intestinal permeability and Alzheimer’s, excessive intestinal permeability and Parkinson’s. It doesn’t matter the disease. that it’s the gut that is the gateway in the development of those diseases. And Fasano, he has over 400, I think it is, publications now to his name. And when you read a research article, there may be six or eight authors on the article. And the last one is usually the boss, Alessio Fasano. He put his stamp of approval on it. He’s always so careful about what he says so that he’s not misquoted. This article he wrote himself. That gives you a sense of how important this article is in his mind that he wrote it himself. The title of the article is All Disease Begins in the Leaky Gut, the Role of Zonulin in the Development of Chronic Inflammatory Diseases. And he elaborates on where does chronic inflammatory disease come from. And as he explains it, it just makes perfect sense to you. And you say, oh, I get this now. So it’s the inflammation that’s occurring in the gut that contributes to the dysbiosis, too many bad guys, not enough good guys in the gut, contributes to the dysbiosis in the gut that creates the intestinal permeability, the leaky gut, that activates these, so Mrs. Patient, Your digestive system is a tube. It starts at the mouth and it goes to the other end. It’s about 20, 25 feet long, winds around in the center there. The inside of the tube is lined with cheesecloth. Now, what would the word for cheesecloth be in German, Dr. Christoph? Thesetuch. Thesetuch. Okay. So the inside of the intestines is lined with cheesecloth because when you take a bite of a hamburger and we chew three, four times, we should chew 15 to 20, but we don’t. We chew three, four times and then we swallow. That clump of meat cannot get into the bloodstream. It would be very toxic if it did. It has to be digested down. So if you think of proteins, they’re like a pearl necklace and the acid in your stomach undoes the clasp of the pearl necklace. Now you have a string of pearls and our enzymes act as scissors to cut the pearl necklace into smaller and smaller pieces. Snip, snip, snip, snip, snip until you’re down to each pearl of the pearl necklace. We call that an amino acid. And the amino acids, they’re the building blocks for all of our tissue. The amino acids go right through the cheesecloth into the bloodstream. That’s how we absorb our nutrients. But a bigger clump of meat will not get into the bloodstream. It cannot, it can’t. It’s got to be broken down smaller and smaller and smaller until it fits through the cloth into the bloodstream. But when you have inflammation in your gut, when you have too many bad guys, too many bad bacteria, not enough good bacteria, and you have an inflammatory gut, you tear the cheesecloth. When you tear that cheesecloth, now larger molecules of that hamburger get through into the bloodstream. They’re called macromolecules. They go through into the bloodstream and now they’re on the highway and your immune system trying to protect you says, what is that in the blood? That is not something that’s good for me that I can use to make new bone cells or new brain cells. I better fight that. Now you make antibodies to beef because a macro molecule of beef went through the tears and the cheesecloth into the bloodstream. or chicken or tomatoes or bananas or raspberries. It doesn’t matter what the food is. If you have intestinal permeability, leaky gut, these macromolecules get through into the bloodstream and your immune system, trying to protect you, just trying to protect you, creates all this inflammation in your gut. So Professor Fasano explains all of this in that article, All Disease Begins in the Leaky Gut. So first, there are five factors in what he calls the perfect storm. You have your genetics. You can’t do anything about your genetics. Your genetics are the weak link in your chain. If you pull a chain, it always breaks at the weakest link. It’s at one end, the middle, the other end. your heart, your brain, your liver, your kidneys, wherever the weak link is, that’s where the chain’s gonna break. So first you have your genetics. Then the second thing is environmental triggers that activate those genes to produce inflammation or produce anti-inflammatory response. It just depends on what it is that you’re putting in your mouth. So first it’s genetics. The next in the perfect storm are environmental triggers. And when you have the wrong kind of environmental triggers like bad fats and all of that, they activate. Number three is too many bad guys develop in your gut, dysbiotic bacteria. Too many bad guys, not enough good guys. That tears the cheesecloth. That’s number four, the leaky gut. And now the bigger molecules, the macromolecules get through into the bloodstream before they should, before they’re broken down small enough. But these macromolecules get into the bloodstream and now they’re on the highway. Your bloodstream is just a highway, a lot of traffic. It’s all going the same direction, but it’s just a highway. And now your immune system, trying to protect you, produces inflammation in your bloodstream. So that’s the perfect storm in the development. And Fasano put the title of this article, All Disease Begins in the Leaky Gut. The role of the protein zonulin in the development of chronic inflammatory diseases. Now, if I can share my screen for a minute, I’d like to show you just one slide that talks about how important this concept is. So may I share my screen? Would that be okay? Sure. Okay. This is from the Center for Disease Control. And what they tell us is that 14 of the 15 top causes of death in the world today are chronic inflammatory diseases. It’s always inflammation without exception. Number three is unintentional injuries. But everything else, everything else in the top 15 causes of death are chronic inflammatory diseases. OK, can we stop sharing the screen now? There’s some slides later that we might get to, but I just want to bring that point across. So and Fasano says all disease begins in the leaky gut. 14 of the 15 top causes of death are chronic inflammatory diseases. And this is the mechanism. This is what they’re teaching at Harvard Medical School right now, which is so exciting that the young doctors coming out will have all of this information, much more technical, of course, than my summary. But this is the bottom line. It’s the gut. So it does not matter what the condition is that the patient is suffering from, as long as it’s not an unintentional injury. you always include as part of your protocol, reducing the inflammation in the gut. It’s always important. So if it’s autoimmune diseases, you always include reducing the inflammation in the gut. If it’s thyroid dysfunction or chronic fatigue or Epstein-Barr, reducing the inflammation in the gut. It’s always, that’s an important component in our protocols to treat our patients. I mean, if we just take Professor Faisano’s second point that you just mentioned, environmental triggers, we might come to the next topic because when you have food entering your body nowadays, you don’t only have food, you have chemicals that persisted in the soil that were sprayed on it afterwards that were maybe added to make it to make it more lasting. So if you look at the disease you just showed us, if we take some neurological diseases like Parkinson, one of the early signs of Parkinson is actually in the gut. You start to have constipation before you have It’s an early warning signal for a neurological disease. And the other one is for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s that your sense of smell gets less. So now entering the subject of environmental toxins that we have nowadays, what role do you put all those environmental toxins that we breathe in our nostrils and we consume and enter our gut? What role do they play? Because nobody seems to be talking about them. Well, that’s a critically important question. And that is the basis of the event that we are launching now called the inflammation equation. For the last year, I’ve traveled the world. I’ve gone to seven countries, interviewed 84 different world experts on that exact question in one form or another about the environmental triggers and how our bodies respond to these environmental triggers. And if I can give you an example of this, and I don’t have any science for this first point before I tell you the science, I don’t have any science for this, but I’d welcome discussion afterwards, perhaps. In my opinion, the most sensitive tissue in the human body is a fertilized egg. It has no immune system. It has no way to protect itself. It’s totally dependent on mother’s immune system and mother’s environment, the amniotic fluid that this fertilized egg is developing in. So that’s the basis of the study I’m now going to tell you about. In the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2019, they published a study looking at couples going to assisted fertility centers. And as you may know, they’re spending tens of thousands of dollars and a great deal of stress to try to get pregnant and have a family. It’s a beautiful thing what they’re trying to do, but it’s very expensive and a lot of stress for the couple. And the editors of the Journal of the American Medical Association made a comment. They said, this is an elegant study using sophisticated biomarkers to demonstrate their point. Now, the editors of the Journal of the American Medical Association do not say that very often. They don’t give a stamp of approval to a study like this to come out and say, this is really a good study. But they did. So I knew that, okay, I can’t argue with the study. So what is this study? So they ruled out all of the known factors that contribute to failure for implantation. They ruled out cigarette smoking. They ruled out alcohol consumption. They ruled out exercise, no exercise. They ruled out socioeconomic class. They ruled out race. They excluded all of these things in an elegant way. And they looked at one thing. How many servings of fruits and vegetables is the woman eating a day while she’s trying the implantation to get pregnant? The results were shocking, totally shocking. They put the results in quartiles, the lowest, the next, the third and the highest serving of fruits and vegetables today. And those women in the highest consumption of fruits and vegetables servings per day compared to those in the lowest category of servings per day, Those in the highest category had an 18% less likelihood of successful implantation. If they did get pregnant, they had a 26% less likelihood of a live birth. They lost the baby to miscarriages and stillbirths 26% more often than those women who weren’t eating fruits and vegetables. And that’s like, what? Wait a minute, what? The more fruits and vegetables you eat, the worse the outcome? And the answer was yes. Because it’s the insecticides and pesticides, rodenticides, fungicides, antibiotics, glyphosate in your cucumbers and tomatoes and apples and carrots and green beans. In the conventional fruits and vegetables, they are so loaded with toxins, with environmental toxins. Now, the good news in the study, that by itself is jaw-dropping. Oh, my God. Change your paradigm of what you think about fruits and vegetables. But the good news in the study is that there was a group of women who were eating organic. And in that group, the results were the exact opposite. The more fruits and vegetables you ate, the better the outcome. And here’s the really good news so that women don’t feel hopeless that they have to eat organic all the time. These women were put in the category of organic consumption. If they ate three servings of organic per week, not three a day, three a week, that’s all it took to completely change the outcome of what they were trying to do. Now. There’s no explanation in the article as to why that was. That was just a little feature, almost like a side note that they put in. Wow. Wait, what? Three servings a week and you got completely opposite results? Yes. Yes. And I think it’s because, you know, if women are trying to eat organic whenever they can, They probably bought organic shampoo that they’re using in the bathroom. They’ve got organic soap in the kitchen. They’re trying the little things that they can to clean up their exposures. They’re already working on it if they’re eating organic whenever they can. So it’s not just the food, but it’s the concept. And it reinforces for us the message in our event is progress, not perfection. And you just wanna take those little baby steps. So every time you ask the question, should I eat the apple or the potato chips? The choice you make is either gonna water your garden for healthy growth, or it’s gonna fuel the fire of inflammation. And so we’re teaching people all of these jaw dropping concepts and how easy it is to begin to turn around the direction that your health is going. There’s no reason why you cannot arrest and reverse the direction of your chronic disease. There’s no reason why not. And we’re here to show you how. It may take you two years. Who cares? but you’re on the path and you’re going in the right direction. So this event is not about how do I treat my Hashimoto’s thyroid disease or how do I treat my rheumatoid arthritis? What pills do I take that helped me feel better? It’s not about that. It’s about how are you throwing petrol on the fire, causing the inflammation that’s causing you’re pulling on the chain and the link is breaking at your genetic vulnerability. Here are your symptoms. So what we want to do is reduce the pull on the chain. I’ll pause now. No, I mean, I could listen forever. The point you were making about one type of cells involving our reproduction, and we can see how fertility rates are declining worldwide in more than alarming stages, not only in the recent years, but the last decades. But the other type of cells that are very vulnerable to any environmental toxins are, of course, nerve cells. And, uh, yeah, they should be nicely protected by a blood brain barrier in our brain. And they, yeah, many toxins shouldn’t even get to them, but yet the American pediatric association, uh, talks about, um, uh, raising children in the first three years organic. Yeah. That was a revolutionary, uh, landmark recommendation. Uh, I think it was last year. and then even to use meat only three times a month because of all the environmental toxins that are usually already in the food. So nevertheless, we have now, as the World Health Organization announced two weeks ago, one third of humanity suffering a neurological disease. This is just a staggering number. Yeah. And that starts, of course, with a simple brain fog to mood disorders from depression to autism, ADHD to Alzheimer’s, dementia and MS and whatever. So quite a quite a huge list. That’s all of them are increasing, as you just showed on your graph. What do we make of this and how do we explain that children were supposed to walk with 12 months and now it’s normal for them to walk with 18 months? A very alarming trend. What is the main trigger there when it comes to inflammation? Could you explore a bit on that? Yeah. Really critically important question. Let me give you another study and then I’ll show you a few slides. Chicago, 2016, 346 pregnant women in the eighth month of pregnancy. And they collected urine samples and they tested the urine for five different phthalates, chemicals used to mold plastic. One of them was BPA, a very common one that many people have heard of, bisphenol A, BPA, and four others. They put the results into fourths, the lowest amount in the urine, the next, the third, and the highest. They then followed the offspring of those pregnancies for seven years. When the children turned seven years old, The researchers reached back out to the parents and said, hi, it’s time now to do the Wechsler IQ test, the official IQ test. And this is one of those shocking results for children whose mothers were in the highest category of phthalates in urine during pregnancy compared to the children whose mothers were in the lowest category of phthalates in urine in pregnancy. Those in the highest category, their IQ was seven points lower than these other kids. Seven points. Now that doesn’t mean anything to anyone until you understand a one point difference in IQ is noticeable. A seven point difference is the difference between a child working really hard in school and getting straight A’s. Just top of the class because they’re working hard. And a child working really hard in school, really applying themselves, barely passing. Because this child, their brain never developed properly. And when they measured them, they found that their reasoning skills were compromised, their vocabulary skills are compromised, their sensory skills, their balance, every marker they looked at was more compromised than the children whose mothers were in the lowest category of phthalates in urine in pregnancy. So this concept of phthalates, which is what’s the plasticizers that we’re exposed to. We’ve all heard about microplastics and how bad they are. Well, technology came out two months ago, paper came out that they now can use laser technology to identify nanoparticles of plastic in water. And they looked at three different companies for a liter of water. And the average in those three different liters of water, the average was over 240,000 nanoparticles of plastic in the water. So we’re drinking bottled water in plastic bottles that’s loaded. 240,000 was the average, just over 240,000, loaded with nanoparticles. And the nanoparticles, when you drink that water, they go right through your gut into your bloodstream. They’re in the bloodstream now, and they go right through the blood-brain barrier. They’re so small, they go right through the blood-brain barrier. They accumulate, and then it activates your immune system, trying to protect you to fight this stuff. And now you’ve got brain antibodies creating more inflammation in your brain. So there are phthalates. And so you look at phthalates, and when you learn that plastic storage containers, When you store your food, leftover food in plastic storage containers in the refrigerator, the next day, the food has phthalates in it from the container. The chemicals leach into the food. When you apply nail polish, it’s the phthalates that, and I’m sure you, Dr. Kristoff, don’t use nail polish, but for those that do, when you apply nail polish, it’s the phthalates that make the nail polish hard. But the phthalates are in your bloodstream in four to five minutes after you apply them on your nails. But there’s no evidence that the amount of phthalates that leach into your bloodstream from applying them on your nails is toxic to humans. There’s no evidence whatsoever. It’s not. But these chemicals are accumulative in the body. So give me a five-year-old girl who paints her 10 little fingers and 10 little toes once a week for 20 years. Now she’s 25, going on to close to 30 years old, gets married, gets pregnant, hopefully has a healthy pregnancy, but their child’s not developing. He’s now walking at 14 months. And then a pediatrician said, well, everything looks okay. It’s kind of normal now. No, it’s not. It’s common, but it’s not normal. There’s something wrong. And then at seven years old, you do Wechsler IQ tests and then you see, wow, this child’s IQ is not in the normal range. It’s a little on the low side. And then you start to understand that baby in utero is being exposed to all these chemicals circulating in mom’s body. And so it’s, I’m praying that we’re able to reach women of childbearing age to attend our event and learn about this so that they learn about this and they begin learning how to detox their bodies, get the chemicals out before they ever get pregnant. You never detox during pregnancy, but you need to give it six months to a year before you want to start a family to clean your body up. So baby’s brain has the best possible opportunity to develop to its full potential, whatever its potential is. Yeah, well, I remember studying with Dr. Odon, a prenatal and perinatal care specialist, on detoxifying in the 1990s of women before starting to get pregnant. At that time, I think nobody could have estimated the amount of accumulation of different toxins, which leads us to the next one, because one of the prime problems in our modern medicine is that we look everything under a microscope in isolated parts but if we look at the synergy of all those toxins um yeah we have no idea yeah so you’re absolutely right so what what is the main suggestion that uh when people listening now apart from changing their diets, and I’m sure they can look up your books and can look up on your website and listen to your summits of what to do. But what should they, in terms of life choices and maybe detoxification, do on a regular basis? What would be your recommendations? Oh, that’s a very good question. Before I… answer that if I may could I show um just a couple more slides of course about where where all of this is going so It’s chronic inflammation that’s the problem. The left side of this slide is everything we’re exposed to. This is the category of environmental triggers. You have too much of a virus or too much bacteria carrying too much weight, too many bad guys in your gut, the wrong foods, chronic stress hormones, whatever it should be, but that turns the wheel that activates your immune system, producing systemic chronic inflammation, trying to protect you from whatever the environmental threat is. And when you get this chronic inflammation pulling on the chain, Wherever your genetic weak link is on your chain, that’s where you develop the disease. So it can be diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, depression, autoimmune diseases, neurodegenerative, it doesn’t matter what the disease is. This is the mechanism. So when you want to reduce your risk of disease, or you already have disease or dysfunction and you want to reduce it, you have to go back to the left side of this drawing and you have to calm down the inflammation, the activation of your immune system by reducing the exposures to the environmental triggers. This is why When people go gluten-free, as an example, in two, three weeks, they feel very different. They notice very quickly. They’ve lost a little weight, their headaches are gone, they’re sleeping better than they’ve slept in years, whatever the result is, but it doesn’t take long because if that’s the main source of petrol causing gasoline or causing the fire and you eliminate the petrol, the fire calms down pretty quickly. And the result is you reduce your inflammation and you start feeling better and functioning better. So this is a critically important visualization for people to understand. This is what we’re talking about in our event. This is from David Furman at Stanford. Professor Furman has the contracts with NASA to figure out why are the astronauts aging so quickly in space? And they found out it’s always excessive inflammation, always. The Italians, I believe, came up with the term inflamaging about 10 years ago, something like that. It’s always inflammation that accelerates the aging process. Now, the other thing I wanted to show you, Blue Cross Blue Shield is the largest health insurance company in the US. And they published a paper in February, 2020, and they said, we’ve got a real problem here that in a four year period, there was a 200% increase in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Not 10%, which would be terrible in four years. Remember I said, every autoimmune disease is going up four to 9% a year, but this is 200% in four years. And what they showed was that the biggest group where this was happening, 407% increase in 30 to 44 year olds being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, 30 to 44 years old, a 407% increase in four years. Our young people have been exposed to so many toxins causing so much inflammation in their brains and they don’t know it. They’re trying to get on with their lives and they feel okay. And they start making jokes. So I’m getting old. I don’t remember the way I used to. Well, how old are you? I’m 32. No, no, no, that’s not supposed to happen. There’s something wrong. There’s something wrong. And then you do the test to find out. 407% in four years in 30 to 44 year olds. That is the major problem. And the government of the US, they came out in 2019 and said, Alzheimer’s is going to bankrupt Medicare within 20 to 25 years because so many more people are getting it and it costs so much to take care of them. It’s going to bankrupt the economy. And so they brought a commission together to figure out what are we going to do about this? And the advisory council looked at this Alzheimer’s and related dementias, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. And in their report, they published a drawing that says it all. And I’ve spent so much time on this drawing in my lectures around the world. And what you see in this drawing of our experts explaining to us that first, you know, most everybody’s normal, they’ve got a normal functioning brain, but then they have this period of increased inflammation beginning to kill off brain cells. It’s called the prodromal period. And during that time, there are no symptoms whatsoever. But the increased inflammation from eating the wrong foods, from breathing bad air, from having mold in your house, there are many, many triggers for this increased inflammation pulling on your chain. And if the weak link is your brain, you’re killing off brain cells, killing off brain cells, killing off brain cells. And this goes on for, if you look at the duration here, you can see this is going on for 20 years. of killing off brain cells. While you have no symptoms, you feel fine. Then you get diagnosed with mild cognitive symptoms, mild cognitive impairment. Now you have hyposmia. You’re losing your sense of smell. You don’t remember where you put your keys. Where did I park the car in the parking lot at the shopping center? You don’t remember where you parked your car. That’s mild cognitive impairment. That goes on for about seven years. So now we’re 25 to 30 years into this increased inflammation in your brain, killing off brain cells, killing off brain cells, killing off brain cells. Then you get diagnosed with mild Alzheimer’s and you think your problem just began, but you’ve been killing off brain cells for 25 to 30 years. And you didn’t do anything about it because you didn’t know because your doctor didn’t do any tests to identify do you have inflammation in your brain right now. There is a test in the US, I won’t talk to a patient if they don’t do the NeuroZoomer Plus. They have to do that test first, because I don’t have time to explain to everybody what the mechanism is and that they need to do the test. So they do the test, it comes back, oh my God, it looks at 53 markers of inflammation in your brain with 97 to 100% sensitivity and specificity. It’s a remarkable test. And when people do that, and I’ve never had a normal come back on a first test, never. None of my friends have seen a normal on a first test. Everybody is breathing all this toxic air and they have a lifestyle that’s contributing to pulling on the chain. And if the weak link in their chain is the brain, that’s where it’s going to manifest. And I will stop sharing screen now to come back to you. But that’s the visual. That’s the visual that we need to understand is that before you have the symptoms, we need to check and see, do I have excess inflammation right now that’s killing off cells, killing off cells, killing off cells. And people just don’t think like that. Our doctors don’t think like that. And so our Our job in the inflammation equation is to educate people, to listen to the scientists, to tell you about phthalates and your brain, about nail polish in your bloodstream. You know, credit card slips. Credit card slips have layers of bisphenol A that imprint the message on a credit card slip, the numbers and things. And they hand you the credit card slip. When you hold a credit card slip, within four minutes, your blood levels of BPA have gone up by over 100% within four minutes. I never touch a credit card slip. In a restaurant, I use my nail to hold and I sign it. And then I take a picture with my phone. And so I’ve got the record for accounting, but I never touch those slips because you don’t know how much BPA is getting into your bloodstream that accumulates over the years. And if you’re a woman, now you get pregnant and you have high levels of phthalates in your urine, your baby at seven years old, their IQ is seven points lower. because of a lifestyle that did not prevent the exposure whenever you could. So our job is to teach people what are the little things that you can do that don’t make you a fanatic and don’t make you crazy. Well, eat organic at least three times a week. Do your best to eat organic whenever you can, but here’s the good news. And if you can’t get organic, here’s the spray that you use to wash off the pesticides on the vegetables when you bring them home from the… grocery store and you just spray the broccoli, you dip it in water and shake off the spray and you say, wow, it looks so much greener. That’s because you just took off 94% of the chemicals and the waxes that were on top of the broccoli. You know, so you learn how to do all these little things that make a cumulatively big difference. I mean, you just touched a very, very important topic that the science of all of this is actually there. Yeah. But there seems to be no communication between the science and the public because doctors will be trained by the pharmaceutical companies. And just a short story, I don’t want to take away your time, but I was at a an Alzheimer conference in Amsterdam a few years ago, and there were the Ivy league professor talking about their wonderful discoveries. And there was not a single word of what you just said about the geology of Alzheimer’s, but everybody presented the common theme in medicine. Everything that’s being introduced on the market is not tested on efficiency, but that the profit margin is higher than the experiment they made beforehand. So that’s what’s being communicated to the medical profession. So that’s why I think your work is so important. We talked about terrain importance when it comes to microbes, since Pasteur and Deschamps, but you’re now making it clear the terrain system is the critical factor for all chronic diseases, whether it’s a pathogen, whether it’s toxins, whether it’s inflammation, whatever. So you’ve mentioned already a few things that people should avoid. Do you have any suggestion? Because as you said, everybody will show inflammatory markers now. I can only say we see that as well. What can people do? You need to get educated. understand that it’s going to take you six months to get educated. I mean, our event is nine days long for an hour a day, but it’s so overwhelming. There’s so much information, right? In little pieces, like in this hour that you and I are talking, people are like, oh my God, what am I going to, you know, that’s because I’m going boom, boom, boom, boom. But in our event, it’s much slower pace and we’re talking to the experts and we’re summarizing what they’re saying so that the point comes across really well. And what happens is that as you become educated, you know, the title of my second book is you can fix your brain. That’s the title of the book. And the subtitle of the book is the secret to success. The subtitle is just one hour a week to the best memory productivity and sleep you’ve ever had. And what do I mean by that? Mrs. Patient every Tuesday night after dinner, every Sunday after services, whenever you want. But every week at the same time, you tell your family, don’t bother me for one hour. I’m going to learn more how we can be healthier. And then you go back to my book and you remember reading about plastic containers in the kitchen that they leach the plasticizers into the food and you’re poisoning your family. And you go back to the book and you look for the three URLs for glass storage containers. And you go to mileskimble.com and Amazon and whatever the third one was, I don’t remember. And you say, oh, I like those. And you order three round ones and two square ones and one for the pie and you pay with your credit card, hit send. It took you an hour, but never again will you poison your family with minute amounts of toxins from leftover food. And then next week, You go back and you look for organic nail polish, phthalate-free nail polish. And you look at the ones and you order it. And the next week, you go to learn about air filtration systems inside your house. and about houseplants. NASA did the study on houseplants. We talk about it in detail in the event. NASA did the studies that show two six inch houseplants in a 10 by 10 foot room absorb 74% of the toxins in the air. What? These little houseplants? Yes, they absorb these toxins that your family is breathing and that you can’t tell are in the air. And then next week you look at water filtration systems and what you can afford. And you certainly get the chlorine shower filters so that you’re not bathing yourself in chlorine and then water drinking water filtration systems. And then next week, And in six months, you’ve got this. You’ve changed your lifestyle and your friends look at you, they’ve not seen you in a while and they say, wow, what happened to you? You look so young and it looks like you’ve lost some weight. Well, I have actually, but you look different. You feel different. You’re so much healthier because you did little bite-sized pieces at a time. The theme of our event is progress, not perfection. You’re not going to be perfect. Don’t try and be perfect. Just allocate a little bit of time every week and then learn a little bit more and change that environment or that lifestyle habit that was making, giving you exposure to those toxins. And that’s how you change the direction of where your health is going. It doesn’t matter what disease you have. I don’t care if it’s stage four cancer. you include reducing the triggers of inflammation in your treatment protocols and you get better you feel better you function better well uh yeah that is a a wonderful summary of our little conversation because one thing that we learned from the media in the last decades is repetition so if you want to change a pattern yeah make sure you come to a particular topic over and over again and then you might change a few neuronal links in your brain and you might actually uh be inspired and uh as you said if you if you stick to a six month uh plan in where you can pick up bit by bit at your own pace you will feel the difference so We wish you all the luck for this event. May it reach as many people as possible. And thank you so much for your time tonight. And I hope it won’t be the last time that we’ll exchange because it’s very inspiring to talk to you. So thank you very much for your inspirations. And thanks for your time. Thank you, Dr. Christoph. If I may just say, you know, the link is theinflammationequation.com forward slash world. And that’s how you register for the event, theinflammationequation.com forward slash world. And we look forward to seeing you there. And we’ll post the link to that event after this interview. So all viewers can click immediately on your website. Anything else you would like to tell or to hand over to the audience tonight? Well, thank you. There’s one more thing. I think it’s a really good point that the science is very clear. It was the New England Journal of Medicine that published the papers on this. It’s referred to as network medicine. And in the concept of network medicine, when you have a friend that’s going through the changes that you’re starting to go through with you, You increase your likelihood of success by 171%. So when you call your friend and say, Hey, I’m going to listen to this thing on inflammation. Do you want to join me? It’s free. It’s all free. You want to join me? And they say, yeah, sure. Okay. And then you talk every day or maybe at the end of the week, say, wow, that was really interesting when they said that. Yeah, it was. And you support each other in your declarations of what you want to do and the direction you’re going in. So invite a friend to come with you and you increase your likelihood of success by 171%. Wow. I mean, as you know, we’re here at the world council for health. We stand for a decentralized responsible medicine and of course, community, which means exchange, which means, uh, I didn’t know that term network medicine. I like it. So yeah, it will increase, increase the likelihood that people will exchange and will, um, yeah, we’ll go the right path towards health. So thank you very much. Uh, and, uh, all the best to you, Dr. Tom and, um, See you soon. Thank you. Bye bye. Bye bye. A big thank you to Christoph and to Dr. Tom for joining us for that wonderful interview. I’m just going to share my screen with you all real quick before we close. We do now carry one of Dr. Tom’s books in the WCH shop. If you’d like to check that out, visit shop.worldcouncilforhealth.org. This book is called The Autoimmune Fix. It says the autoimmune fix provides a practical guide to navigating these increasingly common conditions to help readers feel better and develop a plan that will work for them. If you scroll down, there’s a little bit more information there as well. So I’d encourage you to click over there and check it out. Check it out again. That is shop.worldcouncilforhealth.org. And you can find it in the book section. You can search autoimmune fix or you can search Tom and it’ll pop right up for you. Again, the website for the docuseries that Dr. Tom was promoting that was just recently released, The Inflammation Equation, is theinflammationequation.com. You can just fill out this little form there and get free access to this incredibly comprehensive series that I am excited to watch myself. And if you’re not familiar with Dr. Tom or you haven’t visited his website before, that is highly recommended too. It is just thedrthedoctor.com. And it looks like because Dr. Tom and Christophe were not able to join us live right now for a Q&A. I see that we did have some questions pop up in the chats and we’re not going to be able to answer those questions tonight. But it looks like right here it says that Dr. Tom answers live questions every Tuesday on Instagram, Zoom, YouTube and Facebook. So you can just sign up for that and join him there if you have any questions for him. And also, he is very active on social media. You can follow him on Twitter, the dr underscore com. And he’s got a lot of great videos posted here about a plethora of different topics. So I highly recommend checking Dr. Tom out on his website, visiting his docuseries website, and following him on social media. And thank you everyone for joining us today. This was a wonderful interview. Please make sure you visit our website again so you can share it. It’ll be right up at the same link in our video library and it should stay up anywhere that it’s being live streamed right now where you might be watching it, whether that’s Facebook, Rumble, Twitter, Getter. So please be sure to share. And we are going to play out with a little video made by Linda Ray, a short video featuring what looks like a delicious recipe for a paleo chocolate cake that I cannot wait to try myself. So thank you, Linda, for this video and for letting us know about this delicious cake. Thanks, everyone, for tuning in. And just a reminder that we will not have a live show next Monday. We’re having a special event on Tuesday. So hopefully you’ll be able to join us for that. And more information will be coming soon on that show. So thanks everyone. Have a good day.
