  1. Hawthorn berries, to the best of my knowledge are a heart stimulant. I used to make a tea as a general tonic with hawthorn berries, chamomile flowers, rose petals, a little rosemary and peppermint. all grown at home; It tasted lovely.
There are still some very good books around, some in second hand shops and in local reference libraries in the UK, on the use of hundreds of herbs, berries and plants that have healing powers.
So very interesting about Bay leaf as is, as a preservative/insect repellent. Bay essential oil is used as such. in natural cosmetics.
When my daughter was little, in South Africa, all I used for all her ailments was chamomile tea. Seemed to me it worked for most things except colds.
